Rachel joined OPAL in 2026, bringing with her 17 years’ experience as a primary school teacher, following an earlier career in marketing. She’s now delighted to combine both passions by championing something she cares deeply about: the powerful benefits of play!
Rachel has experienced first-hand the transformative impact of the OPAL programme, having been Curricular Lead at her school. During this time, she also supported schools across Cumbria as a Loose Parts Play Specialist. She loves nothing more than seeing children bring their imaginations to life through loose parts – from impressive dens to wonderfully weird creatures and everything in between!
As a mum of three adventurous boys, Rachel sees every day just how important opportunities for active, imaginative and self-directed play are for children.
When she’s not spreading the word about play, you’ll find Rachel hiking, biking or swimming in the Lake District – and, on a good day, squeezing all three into one adventure!
