Bethan has been a playworker since 2017; in both rural and inner-city settings, as well as more recently in Islington’s adventure playgrounds. Bethan has also previously worked in several childcare settings, including as a family support worker, teaching assistant, and as support worker for young carers.

Bethan’s passion for play began when she was first introduced to playwork in her local playscheme in North Wales. She gained a qualification in playwork and became part of the supervisory team recruiting and training 120 playworkers. Bethan’s first-hand experience of the intrinsic benefits play affords children led her to undertake a MA in the Sociology of Childhood and Children’s Rights. Her research focused on the play experiences of marginalised children, including disabled children, refugees, and asylum-seekers. Bethan is deeply passionate about ensuring all children are able to equally access time, space, and permission to play.
