Following a degree in Education at Durham University, Kate has worked as a KS1 and Early Years teacher for over 20 years. While Early Years lead, Kate quickly recognised the importance of play to children’s health and well-being resulting in her transforming the play offer for all children in EYFS through excellent outdoor provision. For over ten years Kate has
led PE and been a specialist PE teacher. Motivated, passionate and driven, Kate has led her school to become the first Infant School in England to receive the AfPE quality Mark accreditation (2008). Kate has continued to enrich the subject and the school has since received 2 subsequent AfPE awards with Distinction. Kate has also led maths across her school, successfully implementing several new mastery-based initiatives.
Kate has trained many student teachers and ECTs as part of her role. A natural mentor and coach, she thoroughly enjoys the opportunity of supporting others to maximise their potential. This now includes providing mentoring support to schools across the northeast as they embark on the OPAL programme.
Outside of work, Kate enjoys spending time with her two teenage daughters. Kate is a keen runner and enjoys participating in regular events, especially where she can take her dog along with her!
